Watch Game of Thrones Trailer/Teaser
Tonight HBO gave viewers their first look at some footage from the upcoming Game of Thrones in the form of a short teaser trailer. It aired during a 15-minute pre-show to the True Blood season three premiere. Here’s the full thing direct from HBO!
Televisionary: “blown away” by pilot
The writer of the popular TV blog Televisionary recently had a chance to watch the pilot of Game of Thrones. In a recent post, he mentions the Dany recasting news and drops in his thoughts on the pilot.
The Chicago Tribune’s Maureen Ryan is reporting that British actress Emilia Clarke (Doctors) has stepped into the role of Daenerys on HBO’s upcoming fantastic series Game of Thrones, replacing Tamzin Merchant, who left the project. Production will begin in July with reshoots scheduled for the pilot episode, which featured several actors who have since left the project, including Merchant and Jennifer Ehle. [Editor: I watched the original Game of Thrones pilot last week and was blown away. HBO has knocked it out of the park with this one.
Filming delayed until “late July” per GRRM
In a recent comment on his Not A Blog, George R. R. Martin confirms what I had suspected, that principal photography on the first season of Game of Thrones is being pushed back until late July. He also mentions his plans (or lack thereof) on visiting the shoot.
Much as I would like to spend a lot of time watching the HBO series being filmed, it is simply not possible. I have way too much work to do here at home.
(And truth be told, a writer on a film set is often as useful as nipples on a breastplate. By the time the cameras start to roll, the project rests in the hands of the actors, directors, and showrunners. I am none of those things on GAME OF THRONES)
I may decide to visit the shoot when my own episode — episode eight — is being filmed. But even that depends on when and where and what I’m doing at the time. I will likely also drop by Belfast for a day or two after Octocon in Dublin come October, since I’ll be in Ireland anyway. (If we’re shooting in Belfast at that time, and not on some distant location). But only for a day or three.
Also, FWIW, I am now informed that the start of principle photography has been pushed back to late July.
Pics of Momoa as Conan, looking a lot like Drogo
A few spy pics of Jason Momoa as Conan have surfaced and it isn’t very far off from what Jason may look like as Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones.
Photo: Costumed extra
After the disputed photo that triggered costumegate, Winter Is Coming blog presents you two photos of a costumed extra, one David Blair (click to enlarge). On the casting/talent website StarNow, his profile features photos labelled “in character Game of Thrones 2009″ and “Game of Thrones (Pilot for HBO. Oct 2009)”, respectively.
George working on the script
Before leaving for the Chicago convention, GRRM left a message on his LJ about his writing progress in the post script(s):
(P.S. Had a good day writing today. Half the day on the book, half the day on the script. That’s something I NEVER do. But today everything seemed to click. Taxes are done too).
((Need more days like today)).
(((Soon))).
HBO president mentions pilot re-shoot
The David Simon and Eric Overmeyer series will resume production in the fall with season two debuting next spring — about the time another upcoming project, “Game of Thrones,” will be ready to hit the air.
“They should be ready about the same time,” Lombardo said.
Lombardo confirmed that the “Thrones” pilots had some re-shoots, but assured the show’s quality is high.
“It looks beautiful, the compelling scripts are just fantastic, we’re doing reshoots but nothing major,” he said. “The show is there.
Gemma Jackson signs on for full season
Variety has reported that production designer Gemma Jackson has been booked for the full season of Game of Thrones. Jackson, who also worked on the pilot episode, is an awarding winning production designer who was behind the design of films such as Bridget Jones’s Diary and Finding Neverland, as well as the HBO miniseries John Adams.
Another writer added to first season
A “Battlestar”-”Buffy”-”Game of Thrones” connection? Be still my nerd heart!
HBO has confirmed that Jane Espenson, a “Caprica” executive producer who has also penned scripts for “Dollhouse,” “Battlestar Galactica,” “Buffy” and a host of other cool shows, is one of the writers for the TV adaptation of “Game of Thrones,” which was recently greenlit by HBO. Espenson will write the sixth episode of “Thrones’” first season as a freelancer.
Also writing single episodes of the drama: Bryan Cogman, a script coordinator for the show, who’ll pen the fourth episode of the season, and George R.R. Martin himself. Martin, of course, wrote the book series on which “Game of Thrones” is based and has been closely involved in the project since it was announced. Martin is one of the show’s executive producer and a former writer for TV show such as “Beauty and the Beast” and “Twilight Zone.”
The rest of the 10-episode first season of “Game of Thrones” will be written by David Benioff and Chicago’s own D.B. Weiss, the team who scripted the pilot and have overseen the television adaptation from its inception.
